Cataract Surgery

The eye contains a lens in order to focus light on the retina. This enables us to see. When the natural lens becomes cloudy it is called a CATARACT.

Most cataracts occur as patients get older. They may also be more common with certain medical conditions such as diabetes or certain medications such as prednisone. When vision is significantly blurred as a result of the cataract, the cataract must be removed and replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens implant or IOL. Cataract removal is done on an outpatient basis, so you can have surgery in the morning and be home by lunch time. It's more convenient and less expensive than older methods, yet it is even more effective. Most of our Cataract operations are now performed without sutures.
